Smartphone Swindle named Integrated Campaign of the Year

We couldn’t be prouder to share that Virgin Media O2's groundbreaking Smartphone Swindle campaign was named Integrated Campaign of the Year at the PRmoment Awards.

Advocating for consumer rights, #StopTheSmartphoneSwindle was a bold public campaign, calling on the industry to stop selling ‘bunded’ deals that combine handset and airtime (data, minutes, texts) in one monthly price. The swindle arises at the end of a contract when customers are continually charged the same monthly amount despite having paid off the cost of the phone.

Deploying the collective creativity of the in-house team and agency partners, Virgin Media O2 built a year-long campaign unveiling how much Brits are losing in overpayments, whilst lobbying other operators to ditch archaic, opaque and unfair billing practices.

Sharing why the campaign topped the category, one judge said: “I love, love, love the idea behind this of sticking it to the competition in a way that builds positivity towards O2, as well as driving new customers.”

As always, we had a wonderful night celebrating with our friends over at Hope&Glory PR, Broadcast Revolution and Strand Partners, who all played pivotal roles in designing, delivering and executing the campaign. Here’s to many more!
